According to a French philosopher and palaeontologist Teilhard de Chardin who said, we are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

He thought deeply about the meaning of existence and how we relate with the divine. What does it mean to be spiritual beings having a human experience?

Teilhard de Chardin thoughts did make me wonder about our existence, 20 years ago I always wondered what we are. Are we humans trying to have a spiritual experience and elevate ourselves towards the divine, or are we the divine in a physical body trying to understand human life?

You Are Not The Body

According to the Bhagavad Gita, we are the divine experiencing a physical life, since divine has no beginning, end or death, the divine has no equal. When our physical body dies the divine within us continues, some of us call it the soul, whatever resonates with you, we are indeed spiritual being having a human experience.

It’s a challenging paradigm to understand, even if you know and understand how the soul works. When we look into a mirror, we are not seeing the real person. We only see the physical exterior. The real you is within the body.

Often we describe the body as the vehicle and the soul as the driver. The soul is the spiritual spark which creates consciousness, also known that it’s consciousness as well. Without the soul, the body is just a lifeless lump of matter which will decay over time.

No matter how attracted or close you were to one person, when the soul leaves the body we tend not to hang around the body for too long.

If we are spiritual beings having a human experience, then why do we need to be spiritual?

In the human body, the soul faces amnesia; it’s only through people who have experienced enlightenment, just like Teilhard de Chardin we can understand. Since the soul/divine is a spiritual being, most of us want to liberate our soul being entangled in this body.

It takes committed lifestyle changes and meditation for many years to achieve this goal. For those who have come to the realisation that we are having a human experience, tend to go through spiritual experience to end the birth and death cycle, we know this as reincarnation.

I have realised this understanding through peace, love and helping others that I can liberate my soul; it may take many lifetimes to achieve it.
